 ABA Therapy

The Applied Behavior Analysis program includes one-to-one therapy for children currently enrolled with Strong Beginnings from a trained behavior technician under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Hours of therapy can range up to 40 hours per week. Our one-on-one therapy sessions offer learners an opportunity to interact with toys and engage in ways that are functional. We use these opportunities to teach requesting skills (mands), labeling (tacts), and imitation. We ensure a positive and productive learning environment that makes learning fun and engaging for children.

Our goal is to promote independence and to foster generalization and maintenance of skills learned across a variety of settings, people, and conditions. We use a variety of teaching techniques that include Discrete Trial Training, Pivotal Response Training, Incidental Teaching, and Errortless Learning.

Parent Training

Parental involvement during sessions is highly recommended so parents learn effective ways of communicating with their child, as well as ways to increase learning opportunities.

Parent training is an important component of our program, therefore, our Board Certified Behavior Analyst will provide training that allows parents to learn and understand the techniques and procedures used to ensure that the skills learned can be generalized outside of therapy sessions.

Parent Participation is a mandatory requirement for ABA services and helps to ensure a productive & positive experience. This services is for children currently enrolled with Strong Beginnings.

Here are the answers to some common questions we receive:

F.A.Q.
What is ABA Therapy and is it only for children with Autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science of human behavior. It is the scientifically validated approach to understanding how human behavior is affected by the environment. Research in this area started in the early 1950s with the work of B.F. Skinner (Verbal Behavior, 1957). ABA is the only therapy with more than 50 years of research demonstrating its various techniques and effectiveness in increasing socially significant behavior, while decreasing disruptive behaviors for children that have been diagnosed with developmental diagnoses, including but not limited to: Autism, PDD-NOS, Aspergers, Mental Retardation, Down Syndrome, and related disorders.

What is the process to get started?

Your first step is to contact our office by calling or filling out our contact form.

After contacting our office, you will be given an intake form to complete about your child.

If using a private funding source (insurance), an Autism diagnosis* has to be present. You will need to have supporting documentation, such as:

-diagnostic report

-referral/script for ABA therapy to obtain authorization for an initial assessment

*Banner health insurance does not require a diagnosis, but does require participants to be enrolled in Health Home for ASD services.

What about payment?

Strong Beginnings accepts the following forms of payment:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • Debit/Credit Card
  • Arizona ESA Debit Card*
  • Arizona ESA ClassWallet Vendor payment*

*Subject to enrollment with Arizona ADE ESA.
